Media Putting Iran in Risk

According to the article, Freed journalist: Iranian regime’s ‘information fears’, it discusses the journalist, Maziar Bahari who was arrested in Tehran for joining efforts with the media in western cultures. He was arrested for using the information he knew “against [their] master, Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.” He was considered a terrorist. He released “scenes of Iran’s militia shooting from their base at protesters- some of whom had been throwing petrol bombs at the militia.” He was arrested a week after all the images were released around the world.
For Iran, information is seen as a threat. When information is released, they demand to know who it was released to. Luckily, Maziar Bahari, was considered to have a high profile case and therefore was released on bail.
The media, including social networking, is a threat to Iran. At first, it was used as a tool for Iran to spread their messages to the world. Today, the Internet (including videos and simple messaging back and forth) is a significant component for the citizens within Iran to talk amongst each other. For the country itself, they fear for their lives that the information they hide will be released, and the social networking turning against what they once aspired it to do with it. (BBC News)
